Successful closing of PPP-Project

27 October 2014

COLOGNE/DHAKA. More than 50 participants joined the gsm seminar about cleaner production and phase-out of Restricted Substances in textile and apparel industry taking place in Dhaka on October 25th. Provided as closing event for the participating companies in the PPP-Project “Chemical Management Systems for the textile and apparel industry in Bangladesh, gsm and its local partner, the Bangladesh Centre for Advanced Studies (BCAS), have successfully managed to bring together important producers and stakeholders from different areas of textile industry. The resulting multiplier effect reaches far beyond the project.

Manufacturers, purchasers, chemical producers and representatives of the two most important Bangladeshi textile associations BGMEA (Bangladesh Garment Manufactures & Exporters Association) and BKMEA (Bangladesh Knitwear Manufactures & Exporters Association) shared experiences, learned from project’s best practices and discussed future challenges for the production processes. “The findings and solutions of the project as well as the systematic approach of a chemical management system are of great important for the entire industry”, underlines gsm-project manager Florian Tiedtke.

An additional highlight of the event was the presentation of the new and practice-orientated gsm IT-application c.a.r.e. – Chemical Assessment & Risk Elimination. The web-based and easy handling software solution helps to safeguard primary and process materials regarding hazardous chemicals. Endowed with expert knowledge about Restricted Substances risks in chemical preparations, substances, components or materials and numerous templates for products, processes and treatments, user can identify, evaluate, avoid and control Restricted Substances in a preventive and time saving way. Within the PPP-Project, the participating companies have already tested the application and perceived it as being of easy use and a big support.
